Time Extension

Under the New Jersey Fire Code, property owners and responsible parties have the option to request a time extension for addressing open violations. As outlined in N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.10, such requests must be submitted in writing to the local fire official prior to the violation's compliance date.

The request should include a detailed explanation of the reasons for the extension and a proposed timeline for compliance. Approval is at the discretion of the fire official, who will consider factors such as the nature of the violation and efforts made to correct it.

This process ensures that property owners have a fair opportunity to comply with fire safety regulations while maintaining safety standards. Pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.10 an application for extension of time shall be deemed to be an admission that the Notice of Violation is factually and procedurally correct and that the violations do or did exist.
